Lace up your running shoes and celebrate fall with one of the Crystal Coast's favorite community races. The Barley Chase is a USATF-certified 5K and 10K that winds through the heart of Newport before finishing where the fun begins—at Shortway Brewing Company. Whether you're chasing a personal best or simply running for the post-race festivities, participants are rewarded with a finisher medal, event T-shirt, and two post-race craft beers (21+). Food trucks, live entertainment, and Shortway Brewing's anniversary celebration make this much more than just a race—it's a full day of fun for runners, families, and spectators alike. Proceeds from the event benefit the local nonprofit Bread & Barley, supporting community outreach across Carteret County.
